Headline: "I'm not here to be a princess, I'm here to be the Queen".
Powerful soul/blues vocalist and songwriter, Amanda Baker, was voted BEST LIVE ACT at the 2007 Music Oz Awards, staged at the Enmore Theatre on Thursday 22 November. Amanda was also a finalist in the “Best Music Video” category, as well as “Blues” and “World Music” categories at last year’s Music Oz Awards.
It has turned out to be a winning year for this accomplished songstress and performer. She also just won the “Best Music Video” Award at the October 2007 Digifestival in Florence, Italy, for her music video “Addictions” directed by her brother, award-winning cinematographer, Denson Baker ACS. Digifestival Jury Member, Roli Mosimann said, “Amanda Baker impressed me most with her abilities and rare talent of transporting the emotional content of her music straight to the heart, without filters or distractions. She is not just singing a great song about a difficult subject, she is telling a story and lets you feel and participate in what it all means to her in a way only great musicians can do. Beware! A truly addictive voice.” In addition, Amanda’s album cover and t-shirts, also creatively photographed and designed by Denson Baker are finalists in the annual Independent Music Awards (IMA USA) for Best Album Artwork and Best Swag (Merchandise). To top it off Amanda Baker will be playing at this years Music Oz Winners Showcase at Luna Park 8pm on the 8th Dec, so the punters and industry can finally witness for themselves why Amanda received all of these accolades. Independent singer/songwriter Amanda Baker has been described as a “diva” due to her soulful vocal style and command of the stage. Her trademark phrase “I’m not here to be a princess, I’m here to be the Queen” taken from her new single “The Queen”, is the slogan on her award-winning T-shirts. Amanda’s debut album, “Superstitious Woman”, released in 2007, features a range of strong blues, soul and gospel style songs written straight from her heart which tell stories about issues important to her like world violence, self-identity, drug addiction, love of music and life.
